Smoking The Malawi Gold

Malawi Gold is the name given to cannabis originating in Malawi, a country in southeast Africa. In the chichewa language, it is locally known as chamba.[Chamba is grown mainly in central and northern regions like Mzuzu. It is internationally renowned as one of the finest sativas from Africa. Malawi Gold is also known as one of the most potent psychoactive pure African sativas. The popularity of this strain has led to such a profound increase in marijuana tourism and economic profit in Malawi that Malawi Gold is listed as one of the three 'Big C's' in Malawian exports 'Chambo' (Tilapia fish), Chombe (tea) and Chamba (Malawi Gold)'.

Malawi Gold has reached notoriety as the gold standard in Marijuana. Malawi Gold is a top grade Marijuana and is setting the gold standard internationally, in quality Marijuana.

I had the good fortune, sitting in a swimming pool in a camp ground, to meet a fellow friend in Malawi in 2012 who rolled me a joint of malawi gold to take away. He warned me not to smoke it all at once.

I was 18, and far from a chronic smoker. The next night I lit it with an ember from the camp fire...and smoked most of it..but lost track of the roach when the hallucinations kicked in.

I was sitting on a log in front of the fire. I fell backwards off the log. It took me 5 minutes to hit the ground. Each infinitesimal section of the journey earthwards was akin to a strobe light lit moment in time. Each section of the journey earthwards was a self contained experience.

After my brain processed the "holy fuck - here we go..." moment, flat on my back, I recall touching my tent to make sure I was still physically present.

I was diverted by a glimpse, out of the corner of my eye, of a lion waving to me from the bough of a close by tree. And i went to say hello...

Nonetheless there are 3 different grades of Malawi gold as you get further into Southern Africa it often blends in with the South African “Durban Poison” which is by far the most common “high grade” sativa strain in Africa. The other two truly Malawian strains are grown less commercially in the foothills of Malawi. These strains are particularly potent and only a small hit required for a very long “mental high”. Goat herders and some local villagers make a bit of extra cash cultivating small dispersed plantations higher in the hills.
