Movie Review: The Lone Ranger

 

Origin stories are becoming a staple in today’s modern films, we have had some truly fantastic ones such as Batman Begins and some that simply fall flat like Green Lantern that made us, well, not give a crap. I am not surprised to say that The Long Ranger falls into the ladder half of that statement. With a two and a half hour running time, this live action cartoon tries way too hard to mimic the style of its past successors (Pirates of The Caribbean) that it just is painful to watch, at some points. 

 The Lone Ranger is a 2013 American western action film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films and directed by Gore Verbinski. Based on the radio series of the same name, the film stars Johnny Depp as Tonto, the narrator of the events, and Armie Hammer as John Reid ( The Lone Ranger).

In 1939, an aged Indian in a museum display tells a story to a young boy dressed in Lone Ranger garb, complete with the mask.The boy stands wide-eyed as this storyteller twists a tale in a manner that is both confusing and grave. Flashing back, the storyteller relays that after an ambush by the blood-thirsty and extremely nasty Butch Cavendish (William Fichtner) and his gang — which leaves all the Texas Rangers dead, including his brother — naive attorney John Reid (left for dead) dons a badge and a mask and joins forces with a slightly-off kilter Comanche called Tonto to seek justice; one man looks to take Cavendish to face the courts, the other to put him in a grave.  

Johny Depp plays as Tonto far too much like Jack Sparrow, with the same quirky demeanor, but because he does this so well, Tonto manages to appeal to us anyway. He is outlandish, audacious, and often a bit too nuts.

Hammer, who I love watching, is given a character that is one part intelligence, one part buffoon, and one part super hero (in part because of his wonderful, white steed, Silver). Often, however, his naivety and buffoonery overwhelm the other aspects, qualities that had me rolling my eyes several times.  Still, together they are good fun, even if they lack notable chemistry overall, and Hammer fills his boots with old-style Western flair.

We also get to see Cavendish, a man who kills without remorse and feeds on the hearts of his victims..

 The film is not bad at all ,it isn't much of what we expected but i grade it C+..

How To Love..

 

There have been books, movies, magazines, classes, songs, essays, etc. dedicated to showing people the way to go when it comes to romance and relationships. Many of us have sought our cues from these mediums, while some have preferred to learn their love lessons from trusted friends and family; others have made it their business to learn from their experiences alone.

 The majority of folks out there are wise enough to know that there isn’t one method or formula for showing love, but that doesn’t make navigating that path much easier. Wanting to be ‘good’ at loving someone enough to the point where you actively seek out tips on how to be a capable partner is a noble intention. After all, relationships are hard work and many people do not acknowledge or understand this until it’s too late.

With or without the benefit of a Huxtablean pair of parents to look at as a role model growing up, its wise to spend time observing the loving behaviors of other people, particularly our elders, so that we may learn just what love should look like. You can’t use the divorce of your parents as an excuse to suggest that you have no examples to follow; what about your great-aunt and uncle, the couple on your block that has served as the neighborhood’s surrogate grandparents or even your sister and her husband who’ve been together since middle school.

Even the examples that we’d prefer not to imitate tend to have some bearing on how we operate. It’s silly to suggest that witnessing a nasty breakup or perpetually abusive relationship wouldn’t impact us in some way. As we become adults, we have to do the work ourselves to ensure that we don’t let these negative experiences become the lens through which we views all relationships. We have to understand that people can be their at their best in love and they can be at their worst. And we have to use both sets of examples to help us choose the proper course.

Life can imitate art when it comes to love; fictionalized characters can allow us to examine the sort of things we are looking for, what actions we consider to be reprehensible and the type of scenarios we should try to avoid when it comes to love. So long as you realize that Darius Lovehall was born in someone’s imagination, its okay to recognize that the character represents certain qualities you may want in a man…just don’t be so naive as to believe there’s someone running around here exactly like that.

Women are encouraged to go out and spend time learning just how to be the best partner we can be, whereas men are get a pass for just winging it to the best of their ability and learning from their mistakes. It’s the nature of our society and while you do have plenty of reasons to want to complain about this, you can’t be terribly surprised when you whip out your copy of The Good Black Woman’s Guide to Loving, Honoring and Serving a Good Black Man, only to find that your beau wouldn’t know about the male equivalent to such a book if was published in his kitchen.

Speaking of those books, as much as we may poke fun at some of them, there isn’t anything wrong with reading relationship advice from self-anointed gurus and experts; just remember to focus on those who truly respect and admire women without attempting to shame you into changing your everything to have a man.

Ultimately, much of what we learn about loving comes from doing and experiencing it. Feeling neglected by a college love can help you to understand the importance of being an attentive partner in future relationships.

Recognizing the positive reception your nurturing ways got from ex-sweeties might help you to develop your romantic modus operandi, as might allowing yourself to be too giving only to have your kindness taken for granted when it was given too freely. It is from dealing with mates that you will learn the most about what you can and cannot tolerate, what you require from someone else and what it is that you have to offer.

Even if someone wrote a manual specifically dedicated to you and your pursuit of ‘happily ever after’, its virtually impossible to travel through life without making some mistakes in the romantic realm. Love is a learning process and as you continue to evolve and grow, your capacity to love and the sort of reciprocity you require in return will continue to evolve and change.

Benefits of Big Brother as Pokello Returns To Zimbabwe Like a True Hero

The self proclaimed queen of swagg,Pokello Nare, Big Brother Africa (BBA): The Chase Zimbabwean representative who was evicted from the BBA House on Sunday returned back home Wednesday afternoon to a thunderous welcome.




The ‘Queen of swagger’ landed at the Harare International Airport just after midday and was welcomed by hoards of fans and family.

 




Fans had been freely transported to the airport by three luxury coaches and trucks and were wearing Pokello branded caps.


Her fellow Zimbabwean housemate, Hakeem Mandaza, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) officials, and Carnival Queen Zimbabwe, Dananai Chipunza were also amongst those who were at the airport to welcome Pokello.


Unlike other BBA housemates’ reception, Pokello’s was unique because the pomp and fun fare was inside the airport not outside.


While fans were waiting for her outside, she was exclusively being welcomed by Hwamanda dance troupe who performed for her whilst she was getting her passport stamped. Her son Nathan brought tears as he rushed to greet his mother clad in his soccer attire.



Fans could not be controlled when the arrival doors opened and Pokello walked out.


They could be heard screaming and shouting her name trying to take pictures of the diva. They were given a lot of time to take pictures of her before she was whisked away.


Lucky men had their t-shirts kissed and autographed by Pokello whilst others were given caps.


Indeed it was a swag affair as she was driven away in a stretch hummer whilst the convoy was mainly comprised of Range Rovers and the latest Mercedes Benz vehicles.


The Hovhorosi style team, who designed overalls for Team Pokello were also not to be outdone as they rocked the airport clad in colourful overalls especially designed for Pokello’s campaign when she was in the house.


Pokello paraded around the Harare C.B.D before being driven to the Cresta lodge where a press conference was organised for her. During the press conference, she thanked Zimbabweans for having voted and supported her during her stay in the house.



A welcome party will be held for her this weekend.

Skateboarding In Tanzania

Baraka Bishota has been in the forefront trying to encourage youth in Tanzania to take up skateboarding and spearheading the recognition of skateboarding from the government of United Republic of Tanzania and its people. He has gone on to establish Spearhead Skateboarding, which is the first institution to teach skateboarding in Tanzania. The entity is also responsible for creating skateboarding awareness in a country where skateboarding was/is seen as a non-Tanzanian sport.






At Spearhead our aim is to try establish skateboarding as a common sport in Tanzania and Africa in general. We aim at teaching the youth how to skate and inspire them to take up skateboarding as one of their cultural aspects

Most Notorious Arms Dealers in Modern History

The arms industry is a truly global phenomenon. Guns, ammunition and other larger weaponry mean big business all over the world, and where there’s money to be made there will always be a corrupt or criminal element looking to capitalize on the market. The following men were or are masters at the gun game — shady figures who have traveled far and wide trafficking and distributing arms for cold hard cash while attempting to stay one step ahead of the authorities and their business rivals. What follows are the ten most notorious arms dealers in modern history.

10. Adnan Khashoggi

Adnan Khashoggi is an extremely successful Saudi Arabian businessman. He also happens to have been a hugely prominent arms dealer. Regarded as the richest man in the world during the 1980s, the American-educated Khashoggi, now 76, began his arms trading career in the 1960s, brokering deals between US companies and the Saudi government. Amongst Khashoggi’s most famous clients were Lockheed (now Lockheed Martin), who during the early 1970s paid him $106 million in commissions. He concealed his financial dealings by setting up front companies in tax havens such as Switzerland. Caught up (along with Imelda Marcos, the widow of exiled Philippine president, Ferdinand) in the Iran-Contra affair, Khashoggi was arrested in 1988 but was acquitted two years later. He currently resides in Monaco, where his services as a facilitator are apparently still occasionally called upon — most recently in 2003, when he allegedly met with American political advisor Richard Perle right before the invasion of Iraq.

 

9. Dale Stoffel

 

Dale Stoffel was an arms dealer who was heavily involved with the reconstruction efforts established in the wake of the Iraq War. Known for chomping a cigar and routinely having a machine-gun slung across his back — the popular image of a mercenary — Stoffel was killed while on his way to Baghdad in 2004. In 2003, his company, Wye Oak Technology, was awarded one of the first contracts from the newly established Iraqi Ministry of Defense, and in the end the value of his contracts with the nascent Iraqi government totaled over $40 million. During the year leading up to his death, the goatee-bearded Stoffel became an outspoken critic of irregularities in the Iraqis’ methods of payment for his efforts, and those of others like him, with allegations that corruption was rampant. Shortly before his death Stoffel was owed $24.7 million. His widow Barbara sued the Iraqi government for $25 million in 2009.

 

8. Dr. Moosa Bin Shamsher

Dr. Moosa Bin Shamsher is a Bangladeshi business tycoon known for being a major player in international arms trading during the 1970s and 1980s (as well as for many other business ventures). Affectionately dubbed “Prince Moosa” by the South Asian press, this high-profile figure is, notwithstanding, known for dealings with other shady big name arms dealers on this list such as Adnan Khashoggi and Sarkis Soghanalian. It is also alleged that Shamsher has had Swiss bank accounts worth $7 million frozen because of “irregular” transactions. Formed in 1974, Shamsher’s business, DATCO, deals in global weaponry, including tanks, fighter planes and ballistic missiles. Almost as renowned as Shamsher’s arms dealings is his love of excess: he owns a fleet of a hundred private cars that includes Rolls-Royce models and limousines and wears diamond-encrusted shoes valued at $3 million.

 

7. Samuel Cummings

Samuel Cummings was an American arms dealer and founder of the International Armament Corporation — a company that grew to all but monopolize the global market in private arms sales. Cummings died in 1998 at the age of 71 following a series of strokes but has been called (by The New York Times) the “undisputed philosopher-king of the arms trade.” Recruited as a weapons expert by the CIA in 1950, he spent the rest of the early 50s traveling Europe buying up large amounts of excess WWII weaponry. This led Cummings to start up the arms dealing business Interarmco, which would come to dominate the small arms market of 1950s and ’60s America. He also dealt with many famous international leaders, including Fidel Castro, to whom he sold a consignment of AR-10 rifles — much to the ire of General Rafael Trujillo, leader of the Dominican Republic, where Cummings was later doing business.

 

6. Fares Mana’a

Said to be Yemen’s most infamous arms dealer, the official occupation of Sheikh Fares Mohammed Mana’a is Governor of Sa’dah, a city in north-western Yemen. Despite such standing, Mana’a's more illicit activities have been noted by the United Nations Security Council, who added his name to a list of people accused of dealing arms to the Somali insurgents known as Harakat al-Shabaab Mujahedeen — a notorious group suspected of having links to Al-Qaeda. Mana’a has also been accused of spying for the late Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi in return for millions in funds. In March 2011, Mana’a was installed as the new governor of Sa’dah following a battle between pro-government tribesmen and the Mana’a-supported Houthi rebels, to whom he is also accused of supplying arms.

 

5. Sarkis Soghanalian

When Florida-based private arms dealer Sarkis Soghanalian died recently, on October 5, 2011, an extraordinary life ended. Born in 1929, Soghanalian— nicknamed the “Merchant of Death” — established himself during the Cold War, becoming the leading arms merchant during that time of political conflict. He was also infamous for being the foremost seller of weapons to Saddam Hussein during the 1980s. With the full knowledge and backing of the CIA, Soghanalian sold arms to Iraq in the midst of the Iran-Iraq War. He also sold weaponry to militia groups during the Lebanese Civil War, as well as to Ecuador and Nicaragua, and to Argentina during the Falklands War. Following the first Gulf war with Iraq, Soghanalian was jailed for six years for possession of arms and the intent to sell to Iraq. His sentence was reduced to two years, however, after he supplied the US with intelligence.

 

4. Monzer al-Kassar

Syrian-born Monzer al-Kassar — also known by the glamorous title, the “Prince of Marbella” — is an international arms dealer of some notoriety. Currently incarcerated, al-Kassar began his career in trading weapons in the early 1970s when, by his own account, the Yemeni government requested that he buy arms for them from Poland. He lived in London from from around 1972 until 1984, at which point he was thrown out of the country by the British government for arms and drug trafficking. From London al-Kassar moved to Marbella, where he gained his extravagant nickname. Further allegations of arms dealing followed — including that he sold arms to and helped the hijackers of cruise ship the Achille Lauro. He also pocketed millions making sales to Croatia, Bosnia and Somalia when there was a UN arms embargo with the three countries. Al-Kassar was caught and convicted thanks to an elaborate DEA sting that began in 2006 and proceeded to his arrest in Madrid in 2007 and extradition to the US a year later.

 

3. Jean-Bernard Lasnaud

When the French-born Jean-Bernard Lasnaud was arrested in 2002 in Switzerland, it ended almost three years of arrest requests from Argentinian courts and Interpol. Despite this, together with accusations from European courts on counts of arms smuggling and fraud, amazingly Lasnaud was allowed to live peacefully in South Florida for more than ten years before his past finally caught up with him. Lasnaud was in the business of selling arms from his luxurious gated community to anyone interested, with China and Somalia just two of the suspected client countries. According to his own estimates, Lasnaud’s Caribbean Group of Companies sold between $1 and $2.5 million in weapons every year. Accused of brokering thousands of tons worth of Argentinian weaponry to Croatia and Ecuador between 1992 and 1995, Lasnaud even boasted his own website to aid with his transactions. He is caught up in a complex web of corruption and scandals the true extent of which may never be known.

 

2. Leonid Minin

Leonid Minin, a Ukrainian by birth, is a notorious international arms dealer. Born in 1947, he moved to Israel in the 1970s. He  was arrested by the German authorities later in the same decade for using false identification as well as under suspicion of art theft. His customers in the arms trade have allegedly included the Liberian dictator Charles Taylor as well as the Revolutionary United Front group which operated in Sierra Leone. The weapons that Minin dealt in are held to have had their origins in the Russian arms company Aviatrend, a group also involved in money laundering connected with toppled Yugoslav president Slobodan Milošević. Arrested by Italian authorities in 2000 for illegal arms dealings, Minin was sentenced to two years. Nicolas Cage’s character in the 2005 movie Lord of War is partly based on Minin, as well as Sarkis Soghanalian and our number one, Viktor Bout.

 Viktor Anatolyevich Bout, the most notorious arms smuggler on this list, currently faces seeing out the rest of his life behind bars. Extradited from Thailand to America in 2010 following a five-year operation by the DEA, the Russian national stands accused of illegally arming the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia in their operations against US forces. The jury found him guilty and he will receive sentencing in early 2012, when he could stand to receive a life sentence. Bout is reported to have made substantial amounts of money shipping goods in Africa and the Middle East in the 1990s and 2000s, and the former military translator for the Soviet Union may well have fed the flames of various African civil wars by supplying vast quantities of arms during the Nineties. He has also been dubbed a “sanctions buster” because of allegations that he violated UN arms embargoes in trading with Angola, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Congo during the same decade. In 2001 Bout was furthermore implicated in the movement of gold and cash out of Afghanistan. The charges against him make Bout’s future prospects fairly grim indeed.

8.The Grey: He gave the wolves hard time,if we remember after their plane crashed in Alaska, six oil workers were led by a skilled huntsman to survival, but a pack of merciless wolves haunts their every step.Neeson after surviving an airplane crash in a blizzard, gets in to mono a mono fights with wolves and faces his mortality like a man.

  

7.Darkman: Liam Neeson is a scientist who has discovered a way to produce synthetic skin. This could revolutionize skin grafting, except for one minor glitch; the synthetic skin degrades after 100 minutes of exposure to light. When gangsters attack Peyton, he is horrifically burnt, and assumed dead. In his quest for revenge, Peyton, aka the Darkman, is able to take on the appearance of anyone (using the synthetic skin,) but he's only got 100 minutes per disguise.

1.kingdom of Heaven;Neeson plays Baron Godfrey of Ibelin, a man with a big ass sword who knows how to use it. Like, say against a family member (he kills his own nephew, for one). Plus he knights people, which is just plain awesome.The movie is about Balian of Ibelin travels to Jerusalem during the crusades of the 12th century, and there he finds himself as the defender of the city and its people.

In my recent articles i insisted that we should all counter check on who should be our close friends,i said a good friend can lead you to a success but at the same time a friend can lead you to a pitfall,we should know if we have good friends or just some pretenders trying to be our friends,we should know if the guy you call a friend envies you or he loves you..

It’s good for your happiness to be a great friend to someone and to have a group of good friends supporting you. But it can be hard to pinpoint exactly who makes a good friend.

Who are good friends?

• The one that listens.

A good friend is the one that listens,one that understands different situations at your point of view ,any one that listens careful is able to understand you more.

• The ones that keep in touch

 Even if you guys aren’t nearby each other, making an effort to keep in touch through facebook, emails, texts and calls will show your friend you are there for them.

•  They are trustworthy and willing to tell you the truth, even when it’s hard

Good friends don't keep things from us no matter how hard the situation may be,a good friend  is trustworthy..

 Until you've had a chance to hear your friend's side of the story, treat comments that are not supportive as hearsay and rumors. We lost our parents and friends in Darfur..R.I.P

 

It was a morning like this where we were all happy that our fathers were going to protect the world,we can't forget the hugs we gave them ,the hope we gave them,we preached that they will get back home soon..

We could see the sad faces they had and yet we insisted they are strong ,and they will win the battle..it was easy as we spoke but in their hearts they knew how tough it was keeping peace in a a land that is not theirs.

After their departure to Darfur we never stopped going to mosque's and church's ,our mothers never stopped reading the bible and Qur'an,the kids never stopped praying now and then for the safety of their strong fathers..putting them in safe hands and believing they will get back home soon and safe..

It was on Saturday that it was all hard to believe ,after switching on our local radios and TV that's when we got news that there was a deadly attack in Darfur,that claimed the lives of seven Tanzanian soldiers.It was hard to believe but there it was .

The slain soldiers, who were part of the UN-Africa Mission in Darfur (Unamid) died on Saturday after gunmen ambushed a convoy comprising Tanzanian peacekeepers. Their 17 colleagues were seriously wounded in the incident described as the deadliest ever single attack on the international force in Sudan.

This is not the first time Tanzanian soldiers are dying in Darfur. In August last year three soldiers died when their vehicle got swept by water as they crossed a swollen river.

Our troops couldn't easily defend themselves since their main mission was to preserve and maintain peace,sad enough is knowing that  he soldiers were in a normal patrol, but a week ago, unknown assailants attacked members of the army and disappeared with four vehicles without causing any injury,On Saturday our soldiers saw their vehicles parked somewhere, but when they moved to recover them, they were suddenly and viciously attacked.

At this sad moment lets join hands with the families in pain..may our soldiers rest in peace and may they always be remembered for the sacrifices they made..
